Adding another feather to its humanitarian cap, the Dubai Police helped a woman reunite with her daughter after three years of separation. Encouraged by various news reports highlighting the force’s humanitarian efforts, the hopeful mother arrived here on a one-week visa and approached the police, telling them how she had been separated from her nine-year-old daughter when her husband cancelled her visa.
Sergeant Zahra Abdul Hamid and Hassan Ali Al Baloushi from Naif police station helped her reunite with her daughter within 24 hours.
Major-General Khalil Ibrahim Al Mansouri, Assistant Commander-in-Chief for Criminal Investigation, said the police officers contacted the girl’s father and convinced him about the importance of allowing his daughter to see her mother. The father relented and brought his daughter to the Victim Care section of the police station.
Al Mansouri said when the woman was reunited with her daughter, they could not stop crying or hugging each other.
The Victim Care programme was established by Lieutenant-General Dhahi Khalfan Tamim, Deputy Chairman of the Dubai Police and Public Security, to give emotional, material and legal support to victims. Since its establishment, the programme has helped resolve several family disputes. Cases handled include the one in which a woman was reunited with her daughter after 17 years and a special needs person who was reunited with his family. The programme also helped nine persons return to their homeland and returned 90 passports to their owners.
