A large quantity of unlicensed cosmetics worth Dh300,000 was seized by the Ajman Municipality and Planning Directorate recently.
According to Mashhoor Al Shamsi, Director of the Inspection Department at Ajman Municipality, 699 boxes containing cosmetics and perfumes were seized. The huge quantity was seized during a recent ‘surprise inspection’ held by the Market Protection and Monitoring Section, which was conducting market inspections at various markets and shopping malls.
“In the recent inspection, we inspected 69 establishments selling clothes, perfumes and cosmetics, 32 of which were found flouting license rules and selling unfit make-up products that did not comply with the set specifications. Ten other establishments were given warnings to not deal or import products that are unsafe and flout rules.”
Mashoor urged society members to cross-check the production and expiry dates of purchased products and ensure that they abide by health and safety rules. Stiff penalties will be imposed against traders found selling cheap, low-quality products, he warned.
