A sandstorm hit Dubai on Monday afternoon, reducing visibility to just a few hundred metres.  Motorists in the emirate have been warned to drive carefully due to poor visibility.

The National Centre for Meteorology and Seismology (NCMS) had today predicted that it would be hot and hazy during the day time.

Sarah tweeted that there’s a massive sandstorm on Old Bypass Road and low visibility.

Residents and students around American University of Sharjah have tweeted about poor visibility due to the massive sandstorm in the area.

Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) urged drivers to always maintain a safe distance when driving in extreme weather and drive carefully as visibility could be limited to a short distance.

NCMS said moderate winds, freshening at times, would blow dust/sand over the inland areas, reducing horizontal visibility. Sea will be moderate in general, rough at times, over the Sea of Oman.

It also predicted that it would be partly cloudy on Monday with a chance of towering clouds over the eastern areas of the country.
