An Asian woman working at a travel agency in Ras Al Khaimah stole nearly Dh34,000 from 21 Asian passengers flying home after they discovered there were no tickets for them at the airport, a newspaper reported on Wednesday.

The passengers, who work for the same company in the Northern emirate, were checking in their baggage in RAK Airport when they were told there were no ticket in their names, the Arabic language daily ‘Al Bayan’.

They quickly reported their colleague to the police as she collected the money from them and to pay that female employee at the travel agency.

The colleague told police she was also a victim of fraud by the travel agent as she also paid for non-existent tickets for her relatives.

A RAK court found the travel agent guilty of deception and theft and sentenced her to three months in prison.
