Abu Dhabi – An Asian man, who allegedly strangled his girlfriend to death with his belt, stood trial in the Abu Dhabi Criminal Court on Tuesday. The defendant reportedly suspected the victim of infidelity.
The defendant’s embassy submitted documents showing that the deceased’s family opted for blood money (diya) instead of retribution (qisas).
According to court records, the police were notified that the young woman was found dead in a hotel room. Preliminary investigations revealed that the deceased had a red mark around her neck, indicating strangulation.
The police found that the room was booked in the defendant’s name.
