thDubai’s police recovered nearly $70,000 (Dh257,000) dumped in garbage unintentionally by hotel workers after a female tourist forgot the money at her room and remembered it only when she was at the airport getting ready to fly back home.

Police quickly went on alert after the operations room received an urgent call from the woman at the airport saying she had forgotten her money inside a bag at her room in the hotel, saying she could not cancel her flight.

Police men rushed to the hotel and found that the bag mentioned by the woman was thrown by cleaners in the bin, which was later taken by the municipality van.

“Our men did not give up…they tracked that van and succeeded later in finding it………they asked its driver to go back to the hotel,” Dubai police commander Lt General Dahi Khalfan Tamim said.

“Our men then began searching through the garbage until they found the bag. All they money was still in the bag, which our men later handed to the surprised woman.”

Newspapers said Tamim was recounting urgent and humanitarian incidents with which Dubai police had dealt with.
