
RIYADH: Jeddah police are looking for a hit-and-run motorist who fatally hit a pedestrian on Friday.
Confirming the death, acting Sri Lankan Consul General M.S.M. Ansar said that the accident occurred in the coastal village of Aboor at 11 p.m. when the pedestrian was crossing a service road carrying his three-year-old daughter.
The deceased was 36-year-old Mohammed Yusuf Mohammed Milshan from Balantota, Nawalapitiya, a town in the hills of Sri Lankan, some 150 km from the capital Colombo.
Milshan, who was married to Fathima Sahara, was the father of two children aged three years, and six months.
At the time of the accident, Milshan was carrying the three-year-old and the child flew from his arms when he was hit. The child escaped with minor injuries, and was discharged after a few hours in a hospital.
According to the consul general, the mission has been extending its support to police to find the errant motorist who fled the scene. He said that police are positive that the runaway motorist will be tracked down without much delay.
According to witnesses at the site, they saw the car knocking down Milshan, who was crossing the service lane.
On the same day, another Sri Lankan, Mahroof Adambawa Vellakutty 52, died after Isha prayers at the main mosque in Balad. Doctors said he died of a cardiac arrest.
Vellakutty was from Sammanthurai, a town on the eastern part of the island which is more than 350 km from Colombo.
Funerals of the two dead persons took place in Jeddah on Sunday.
According to sources, the country’s consulate and the local authorities arranged for the burials with the consent of the next of kin.
