
Dr. Shehnaz Ganai, Member Jammu and Kashmir State Legislative Council and also member J&K State Haj Committee, who has been deputed by the State Government as observer on behalf of Sate Haj Committee, to oversee the Haj arrangements in Saudi during Haj-2014, today in an interview lauded the Efforts of the Jammu and Kashmir State Haj Committee, for operating the Haj flights on war footing basis, amidst the devastating flood that submerged almost half of the state.
Dr Shehnaz Ganai met Hajis from Jammu and Kashmir in Mecca and visited the hotels they have been lodged to see the arrangements there. Dr Ganai Met with Hajis from the State and even visited the rooms where the ladies were putting up and assured them the best possible help from her side.
She informed that State Government has deputed twenty three Khudamul Hujaj for rendering support and facilitating hassle free Haj for the Hajis. She said that the Government has deputed medical team from the State to be part of Indian Medical Team for providing the health care in Mecca and Madinah.
The Hajis were happy, to be part of Haj-e-Akbar and appreciated the efforts of The State Haj Committee for arranging the flights from Srinagar despite the fact that the state had witnessed devastating flood that submerged almost half of the state.
Dr Shehnaz appreciated the step of State Haj Committee in providing the Jackets with logo for men and Scarves with logo for women for the first time to hajjis as the same is useful in recognising the hajjis from J&K. She informed that this year is 7011 from J&K performed the Haj during this year.
While mentioning the recent floods, She said that J&K Government with the assistance of Govt of India, was able to rescue the people from the submerged areas, by pressing in Air sorties and Boats. She said that J&K Government is providing relief to the effected families to alleviate the agony of the victims. Besides the Government Departments, she said that many voluntary organizations have also participated in the relief and rescue operations, which is highly laudable. Needless to say that the people of Jammu & Kashmir have participated in the relief operation irrespective of their religion.
Dr Ganai hails from Poonch in Jammu & Kashmir which is on the line of control and the only female member of the state legislative Council who represents Jammu and Kashmir State Haj Committee.
Dr Shahnaz Ganai, daughter of late Sh Ghulam Ahmed Ganai, is a resident of remote village of Border District Poonch viz Mandi.
Dr Ganai after completing her MBBS joined Govt services and worked as Assistant Surgeon in hospital at Mandi, later she completed her Post Graduation in Hospital administration from Osmania University Hyderabad. She quit her job in 2007 and plunged to active politics by joining the main stream political party National Conference to serve the people. She worked in the party as Provincial Secretary in the women’s wing.
She was chosen by the party as party candidate for the election of legislative council from Panchayti Raj quota from Jammu Division. She is the only female from the Pir Panchal range to get elected from the panchayati Raj system in the legislative council. She is the only female voice of Pir Panchal and needless to mention that she represented the state in the common wealth women parliamentarian conference held in the parliament house in Delhi in March 2013.
Furthermore, she appreciated the volunteer service of Indian Fraternity Forum which has engaged its women and students wings for the service of Haj pilgrims in Mina and lauded the efforts and spirit of dedication to serve people.
Dr Shehnaz today also met Ahmed Mohammed Ali Al-Madani President of the Islamic Development Bank in Mecca. She was accompanied by Deputy Chief Minister Telangana, Mr Mahmood Ali. The meeting was cordial & positive and lasted for about one hour in which various issues including the recent floods in the State were discussed. Needless to mention here that Ahmed Mohammed Ali Al-Madani President of the Islamic Development Bank had invited the all the Board members of the prestigious Islamic bank in the meeting.
She gave an overview of the efforts put in by the State Government in rescuing the people from the effected areas and also relief operations launched to alleviate the agony of the victims. She informed them that the State is passing through a tough time as colossal damage has been caused to life, property, crops, infrastructure and utility services across the state during the recent incessant rains which caused floods and landslides. She informed them the need of the hour is that resources need to be pooled to overcome the challenges posed by the natural calamity, and asked them to come forward for generous help.
Dr Shehnaz Requested the president of the Islamic bank, the organisation which is managing the distribution of Qurbani meat, across the Globe, to send the qurbani meat, to Kashmir this year onwards as a regular feature. The president gave a patient hearing, and assured best possible support from his side.
