‘Writers have become lazy’

Mumbai: One of the most talented actors in the Hindi film industry, Paresh Rawal, recently added one more facet to his interesting personality —- that of a Member of Parliament. Over a year ago, Paresh ventured into production and partnered with Akshay Kumar to make Oh My God that went on to become a box office success and earned a lot of critical acclaim as well. Now he is gearing up for the release of Raja Natwarlal that hits theatres this week. Ask him why he has not done too many films of late and Paresh blames it on the lack of good scripts.

“At the risk of sounding immodest, I know I’m talented. I’ve had a series of films that I can look back on and feel proud of. I want to do more work.

Unfortunately dearth of writers and ideas, force me to go on long breaks. How many writers come up with intelligent scripts like Hera Pheri, Aawara Paagal Deewana and Welcome? It’s upsetting that writers have become lazy and have succumbed to monotony. Thankfully I’m an established actor, I don’t have to work out of desperation,” says Paresh.

He’s often called a workaholic but time is not something Paresh fights for. “I do have a very busy schedule. But I take time out for things that I want to do. I have a serious problem with people who start their conversation with ‘I’ve had no time’. There has to be the ability and the desire to achieve targets and goals. Everyone has and can take time out for work and people,” he says.

Paresh continues, “A lot of people ask me, how do you take time out for your family? I’m at a stage and age, where my children have to take time out for me. They’re a lot busier with their studies and schedules than us.”
