Popular TV actress Drashti Dhami defeated American dancer Lauren Gottlieb at the glittering grand finale of dance reality show Jhalak Dikhlaa Jaa, on Saturday.
Paired opposite prominent choreographer and Any Body Can Dance actor Salman Yusuf Khan, Drashti got the maximum votes at the live voting held during the finale.
Lauren and eight-year-old Sonali Majumdar were declared the first and second runners-up, respectively.
Drashti walked away with prize money of Rs 50 lakh and the JDJ trophy. Drashti is a household name among the TV audience, where she is more popular as Madhu from hit daily soap Madhubala.
Though Karan Johar told her that with her grace and poise, she should be seen on the big screen, Drashti has no intention of quitting TV shows.
“I received flattering comments while on the show, but, nothing from Bollywood has come my way. I will be seen on TV for a while,” she said.
The grand finale was attended by Hrithik Roshan and Priyanka Chopra, who came on the sets to promote their upcoming film Krissh 3, which is slated for a Diwali release.
The show was judged by film-maker Karan Johar, Madhuri Dixit and choreographer Remo D’Souza.
The 16-week dance show is a local adaptation of the BBC Worldwide format Strictly Come Dancing, which is produced in over 40 countries.
