Rajinikanth lends support to the rain-affected victims of Tamil Nadu, donates Rs 10 lakh

Mumbai: Life on Wednesday came to a grinding halt in Chennai and its suburbs following the unprecedented deluge, with scores of stranded citizens making their way through waist-deep water with all modes of transport and communication falling prey to the rain fury.

While the Army and Air Force were involved in rescue work and distribution of food packets at suburban Tambaram and Oorapakkam, ships of the Navy and Coast Guard were on standby, officials said.

Several celebrities have come forth to lend support. Rajinikanth has extended his support to the rain-affected victims of Tamil Nadu by donating Rs.10 lakh to the Chief Minister’s Public Relief Fund.

An official statement said the donation was paid through Sri Raghavendra Public Charitable Trust, owned by Rajinikanth. Also, Rajinikanth’s son-in-law Dhanush has donated Rs.5 lakh. On the other hand, Suriya and his brother Karthi have chipped in Rs. 25 lakh and actor Vishal Krishna Reddy also has donated Rs.10 lakh.
