Sooraj and Salman are both nice-hearted but very misunderstood: Zarina Wahab

soraj-fiSooraj Pancholi hit headlines in 2013 after Jiah Khan committed suicide at her residence. The actor had survived a 30 day ordeal in jail and had returned back stronger. Two years later, his debut film Hero is ready to hit screens and Sooraj has found a footing in the industry already. While appreciation has poured in from all corners, a rather shy Sooraj is now happy that people recognise him on the streets. “Not everyone knows my name. So now when they spot me on the streets, they point and say, ‘Woh dekh Hero ja raha hai’. That feeling itself is very fulfilling,” Sooraj smiles.

A proud Zarina Wahab tells us, “He might be our son but he has never asked us for any help. Whatever he’s done today is all because of his hard work and Salman Khan’s support.” Surprisingly, Sooraj had not even informed his parents that he had signed the film for quite sometime before he broke the news to them. Sooraj smiles, “I had not even told my mom and dad about Hero. I waited and after a long time, when I knew I will be starting to shoot for the film, I told them that Salman sir has offered me a film.”

Sooraj, who has stayed alone ever since his teenage days reveals, “The incident brought me closer to my parents and my family. I think I have become a better son ever since then.” Zarina adds, “He is a very well brought up kid. He knows how to respect his elders and gives a lot of love to everyone around. I always believed that whatever happens , happens for a reason. At the end, if you are a nice person, nothing bad can happen to you. I am happy that Hero is releasing and everyone is talking about Sooraj.”

But Zarina consciously stayed away from the shoots. “I didn’t want to burden him by going on the sets. He would have become very conscious of my presence. But there was one time when he insisted a lot and said, “Ma, you come.” That was the only day I have been on the sets.” Zarina also could not attend the trailer launch event, since she was shooting but made sure she checked the trailer as soon as she reached home.

While papa Aditya Chopra explained the ‘Don’ts’ to Sooraj, mumma Zarina gave him just one advice. “I have always told him one thing. Don’t think you are a star. Be humble and go to a set as a worker.” Talking about Salman’s unflinching support for the boy, Zarina said, “Nothing would have happened if Salman was not there. He is allah ka farishta for us. He believed in Sooraj when no one else was ready to believe him. He stood by his grounds and supported Sooraj.”

The actress also added that she finds a striking similarity between both Salman and Sooraj. “Both of them have hearts of gold but are extremely misunderstood. Even today, when there is a person at our door, Sooraj will run to me and say, “Ma usne kuch nahi khaya hoga. Please usko khana de do.” Not many people would do that. Salman is possibly one of the best human beings ever. Allah ka nek banda hai woh. He is such a nice person in real life. But both of them are terribly misunderstood. Maybe, that’s why Salman also connects a lot with Sooraj. He loves him dearly,” Zarina signs off.
