While building six-pack abs is not so uncommon these days, it can add to the film’s look as  well as  lift the personality of the actor nowadays.  Darshan is the latest  Sandalwood star who has sculpted his body into a lean and muscular avatar with the trademark six pack abs for his upcoming film Airavata. However, the actor  feels that his  super abs are only an added advantage. “I don’t believe that a film can run because of six-pack abs. If the film has good  content, then the six-pack just becomes a plus,” he says.

Darshan, who has been working to tone his body for over six months now has been on a strict routine. “A lot of sacrifices have gone to develop this six pack and I have had to change my eating habits completely. In fact, I haven’t taken white rice for the last one year and am living with the not so tasty staples of rotis and broken wheat. I have a gym in the house where I do a rigourous daily work out. I can’t work out in a crowd and I prefer to have only my trainer, Hemanth, a national bodybuilding competitor, with me. Of course, as an actor we don’t go to the extremes that they can and we can’t maintain this toned body forever,” he feels. According to him, sporting the six-pack was not just because it could lift his character’s portrayal in the film to a new level, but because of his fans who seemed to be desperate to see him with a toned body.

He reveals, “Director Arjun wanted this look for Airavata and I took it on as a challenge. I was also inspired when I saw my face over Aamir’s Gajini poster behind many autorickshaws. Whenever I used to see those pictures, I used to feel guilty about my face being morphed on to another actor’s body. That’s when I decided that one day I will have a super physique of my own and will not require this. This was the reason why I have posed in Ghajini style because I wanted my fans to now have a picture of me with my own perfectly chiseled six pack.”

The shoot was clicked on Tuesday by photographer Kabir Gowda who took these shots of Darshan during his work outs. Apparently, Darshan had even scrimped on water to get that perfect look. “We hope to complete shooting the film by month end,” he says.
