Anushka Sharma Caught in ‘Bombay Velvet’ Promotional Struggle

anThe promotions of “Bombay Velvet” seem to have gone a little haywire. The trailer did not make as big as an impact as the “Gabbar Is Back” trailer did (the two released around the same time) when it came out. Even the first look posters were not well-timed and were too spaced out from one another.

Ranbir Kapoor, who was busy shooting for “Tamasha,” missed the big trailer launch event. Without the main star of the film, the team lost out on cashing in on the important day.

Add to that the fact that Ranbir is not on any social networking sites, which have become a huge tool to garner awareness and excitement for a film. And it is more or less up to his co-star Anushka Sharma to speak about the film on Twitter.

Now, team of “Bombay Velvet” cancelled the launch of the song “Mohabbat Buri Beemari” at the last minute, which was supposed to be held March 14, citing the absence of Anushka as the reason. Anushka’s spokesperson in the meanwhile has said that she had informed the team a month ago that she was going to be a scheduled break. And in fact, she was not even supposed to be at the event and her name was not on the list. Anushka had taken a few days off and decided to spend the time with boyfriend Virat Kohli and watch the IPL game in Bangalore.

Ranbir was supposed to be at the event, but apparently he decided to wait a couple more days for Anushka to join him for the promotional event. A little birdie told us that one of the main reason for the delay in the song launch was all the attention that “Dil Dhadakne Do” was hogging since its trailer was being launched March 15. The team wanted to wait it out and release their song April 17, so that they would get more attention.

Insiders also say that blaming Anushka is a cheap tactic to get publicity for the film, but we hope that’s not true for a film that’s directed by Anurag Kashyap and stars two A-list actors.

In the coming days, as the euphoria around the more organized promotional activities of Akshay Kumar’s “Gabbar Is Back” and Anil Kapoor, Ranveer Singh, Priyanka Chopra, Farhan Akhtar, Anushka-starrer “Dil Dhadakne Do” soars, it is going to be even tougher for “Bombay Velvet” to keep up.

With the release of the film (May 15) just a month away, team “Bombay Velvet” will surely have to get its act together.
