Detective Byomkesh Bakshy was never known to be much of a dancer in the pages of Sharadindu Bandopadhyay’s original fiction works. It could be the Govinda effect then, that Sushant Singh Rajput as Byomkesh showed off quite a few cool moves on the set of Dance India Dance Super Moms. In any case, if shaking a leg ensures some quick publicity, bhadralok sleuths don’t quite mind the idea.
Sushant shot for a special episode on DID Super Moms to promote his new film, Detective Byomkesh Bakshy, due out this Friday. The actor is known to be a consummate dancer, and the high point of the show was his impromptu matching of steps with Bollywood’s dancing superstar Govinda, who is the primary judge on the show.
Although he was there to wax eloquent on his much-anticipated film, Sushant chose a wardrobe quite unlike the pre-Independence era Kolkata-based detective he essays. He teamed a black bandhgala with loose lowers and formal boots to cut a fusion statement in style. Govinda, flashy as ever, made a dapper statement in a formal suit made of shimmering material.
As the Bollywood superstar of the nineties got in sync with the new-age offbeat hero, the DID stage came alive. The audience lapped up every bit of it even as Govinda’s co-judges, choreographers Geeta Kapoor and Terence Lewis, egged the duo on. DID Super Moms hosted by TV actor Karan Wahi recently kicked off with its season two. The show is an offshoot of the more popular Dance India Dance.
