Bangalore, June 1: Kannada film actor Duniya Vijay suffered burns to his left hand and eyebrows during a photoshoot at Kanteerava stadium on Saturday evening. Crew members rushed to Vijay’s rescue, covering his hand with clothing to smother the flames.
“It is not a major incident,” the actor said later, speaking to Deccan Herald. “It was an accident. I am absolutely fine and have suffered only minor burns.”
The accident occured at around 3 pm when the crew members were making preparations for a photoshoot for the actor’s upcoming film ‘Shivajinagar’.
The photoshoot was scheduled to take place for an hour. Vijay was to do several three-minute-long action sequences and stunts for the film’s pre-release publicity campaign.
“I applied some fireproof gel, before daubing flammable liquid on my legs and hands, to which the crew lit fire. Unfortunately, my T-shirt came in contact with the flames which spread all over,” he said.
“I suffered burns in three different areas on my left hand. My eyebrows were also partially burnt.”
After the flames were extinguished, Vijay and the crew had a break and resumed the photoshoot later.
Vijay plays the role of a Muslim crime boss in the movie, which will be filmed largely in and around the Shivajinagar area in Bangalore. Shooting is scheduled to commence on June 6 and will wrap up in two months. The movie has an October release date.
