New Delhi: Under fire for issuing a new controversial guideline, Censor Board chairperson Pahlaj Nihalani courted another controversy on Tuesday saying former board chairperson Sharmila Tagore cleared films like ‘Omkara’, setting the trend for clearance of films with cuss words.

“Omkara was her son Saif Ali Khan’s film. The board cleared it on her pressure which set the trend and release of films like Gangs of Wasseypur happened,” said Nihalani in an interview to Times Now.

Nihlani also alleged that 1975 blockbuster ‘Sholay’ was stuck in censor board but only after the intervention of Congress leader Sanjay Gandhi it got released with edited scenes.

Nihalani on Tuesday defended the banned words list issued by CBFC, saying anyone having a problem with the guidelines should approach the Information and Broadcasting Ministry.

“I have not made up these words. The list was given to me by my office and it was circulated among us. It was not for the media. It was not to be made public. It was given to them to follow the guidelines,” Nihalani said.
