New Delhi: A whole lot of ladies in Bollywood have chopped off their long tresses for a bolder, cropped look. Actor Anushka Sharma, who kicked off the trend by sporting a short, funky hairstyle, says, “I wanted to sport short hair for a long time. I really like my new shorter cut, and it’s super manageable, too.”

Actors Sonakshi Sinha, Priyanka Chopra and Huma Qureshi, too, have been spotted rocking short crops. The style, which has been a favourite with fashion forward international celebs such as Miley Cyrus and Katy Perry, is a throwback to the 60s. “Shorter crops are inspired by rock-and-roll fashion of the sixties. Chopped layers with lots of texture are very popular these days,” says hairstylist Adhuna Akhtar.

With the days getting warmer, hair expert Javed Habib, too, votes for short crops. “Short haircuts are just perfect for summer. They give you a young, fresh look. The shorter you go, the younger you look. One inch shorter means one year younger,” he says.

Hairstylist Sapna Bhavnani says that she would love to see the actors sport the cropped look on screen as well. “I just wish actors sport this look in films, too. That’s how it will seep into the mainstream. It’s so much better than wearing funny extensions,” says Bhavnani, who gave actor Bipasha Basu a bob way back in 2008.

But how short is too short? “Your forehead and neck determine the ideal length. Longer length works for those with a long neck, and vice versa. Shorter fringes for a small forehead and slightly longer ones for broad foreheads,” suggests Habib.
