Mumbai: Indians mostly share two passions- cricket and Bollywood. And, if the two are served together what more can we ask for. The ICC World Cup 2015 is all set to raise the excitement level to a new high with Amitabh Bachchan making his debut as a commentator.

The actor will be a commentator for the India-Pakistan match of the World Cup to be held on February 15, along with Harsha Bhogle, Kail Dev and Shoaib Akhtar. Star Sports and the makers of Shamitabh have come together with an interesting concept to promote the film, wherein Amitabh Bachchan plays the voice of a deaf and mute actor played by Dhanush.

Amitabh is happy to add another feather to his hat and the promo is already out which features Kapil Dev and Shoaib Akhtar. Amitabh says, “This country’s emotions are ruled by two things — cricket and cinema. For me, it’s an exciting time on both fronts. My movie is releasing on February 6 and then, I have the privilege of making my commentary debut.”

Shamitabh director R Balki is happy with the fact that Amitabh will lend his baritone for cricket commentary.

“I personally feel, and there are millions who will agree with me, that there is nothing that Mr. Bachchan’s voice can’t do. He has done voiceovers in many feature films and has also lent his voice to documentaries and social causes. The one thing that he hadn’t done was cricket commentary.”

The idea of getting the 72-year-old thespian was to do something universally appealing, and it works as a double strategy — it not only serves as a great promotion of Shamitabh it also binds India and Pakistan together.

“I think the two voices of Lata Mangeshkar and Amitabh Bachchan unite India and Pakistan better than anything else,” he said.

Shamitabh is slated to be released on February 6 and also stars Akshara Haasan and Dhanush in leading roles.
