Mumbai: Priyanka Chopra is on signing spree. The versatile actress has signed Prakash Jha’s ‘Gangajaal’ sequel. ‘GangaJaal’ stars Ajay Devgn in a pivotal role; he played a police officer in the film. Priyanka Chopra will reportedly play the role of female cop in the sequel.
Earlier, Piggy Chops enacted police officer role in ‘Don 2’ and ‘Gunday’.
Apart from ‘Gangajaal 2’, Priyanka has also signed Zoya Akhtar’s ‘Dil Dhadakne Do’, Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s ‘Bajirao Mastani’ and Madhur Bhandarkar’s ‘Madamji’.
Highly impressed with Priyanka’s ‘Mary Kom’ performance, the filmmaker approached Priyanka for the role. When Jha who makes movie based on socio-political issue approached the actress, she readily accepted.
“Prakash Jha is known for making socio-political films and for this one, he wanted a female protagonist, unlike in the original. Priyanka Chopra has a role similar to the one Ajay had in Gangaajal,” says a source.
Apparently, Priyanka is a great admirer of Jha’s work , “The actor is interested in doing this film, and has agreed to sit with the director to understand the character thoroughly once she completes her present commitments,” says the source.
When contacted, Priyanka’s spokesperson confirmed the news, but refused to divulge the details. “The paperwork is under process, so we can’t comment on it at the moment,” saidher spokesperson.
Priyanka said year 2015 will be a year of change for her and the actress has already started trying her hands on different aspects of her career. She has also signed contract with Hollywood well-known production company ABC to play lead character in their projects.
