The ‘Slumdog Millionaire’ star Frieda Pinto mostly maintains a low profile and is generally photographed with her boyfriend of six years who was also her ‘Slumdog Millionaire’ co star Dev Patel. However, the actress has celebrated her thirtieth birthday in quite a different way resulting in a number of rumours regarding her relationship with Sid Mallya – the son the liquor baron Vijay Mallya. Sid was also once the boyfriend of Deepika Padukone. However, Frieda completely denied the rumours and says it was only a night of fun with friends.
On her thirtieth birthday Frieda posted a picture of herself on Instagram. She was holding up a liquor bottle and the picture was captioned, “I would love to post an after pic. But I dare not.” However, the after pic did make an appearance in the media. The actress was dressed in a floral mini and heels and put up a splendid show on the streets of Los Angeles. She was performing an impromptu pole dance outside the Royal Palace Strip club using a parking meter for her pole. While boyfriend Dev Patel was absent, the most prominent figure in the entourage was Sid Mallya who had recently moved to Hollywood to try an acting career there.
Talking about the photograph, Frieda said that it was blown far out of proportion and that it was merely a casual night out with friends. At the same time she confirmed her ongoing relationship with Dev saying that he is her soul mate and will continue to be so. Frieda said that though the photos were reported in the international media, it was only the Indian media which made such a fuss about it. She also declared her feelings that celebrities should protect their privacy with utmost fierceness to prevent the media from making such baseless speculations.
In an interview Frieda said, “It was a bunch of young people having fun. That’s it. There was nothing more to it. Sid happened to be in Los Angeles, and we are part of the same friends circle. I don’t even know how these rumours even started. Let me tell you, these stories were only started by the Indian media and not anyone else. The reports which were carried internationally were that I was drunk. Which I feel was fine as, once in a while, everyone should be able to let their hair down and have some fun.”
