Mumbai: Outraged by Ram Gopal Verma for using her name in his new Telugu movie – Savitri, actress Sridevi has sent a legal notice the director.
Sridevi’s husband, producer Boney Kapoor has sent a legal notice to RGV seeking an explanation for using her name in the title without her consent.
According to reports, after finding out that RGV has changed the name of his film Savithri to Sridevi, Boney Kapoor tried to contact him. The director instead, replied with a WhatsApp text, sending a press release.
A livid Boney then sent a notice saying, “The title is bound to make the public at large believe that the film is associated with Sridevi.”
“Our client has already suffered considerable embarrassment due to the queries being raised to her regarding the title. Cease and desist from using the name,” a leading daily quotes the notice.
RGV is not twitter’s enfant terrible, he is just himself
The movie Sridevi, directed by Kiran Prasad is a story about a teenaged boy’s cruch on an older woman. A poster of the film, then named Savitri, shows a young boy staring at the bare mid-riff of a sari-clad woman.
The poster and the title of the film left left several women’s organizations fuming. Reportedly, the State Child Rights Protection Commission filed a suo motu against the filmmaker for the violation of child rights.
Under severe criticism, the director renamed Savithri as Sridevi, which in turn enraged the actress and her husband.
