Karama Centre, a commercial and residential complex , has been closed after a fire on the premises on Monday evening.
The fire erupted at a supermarket in the mall at around 4.30pm on Monday due to short-circuit and the whole four-storey building was cordoned off and evacuated by the Dubai Police and Civil Defence teams.
Power in the building was cut off by the authorities and residents in the apartment section of the complex were told to evacuate immediately.
The fire was put out immediately by the civil defence team.
The residents were allowed to go back into their apartments later in the evening, but retail outlets located on the ground floor remained closed and employees were told to lock the shops and not enter the building until further notice.
The Civil Defence team will decide the opening of the retail outlets today, after inspection of the supermarket and the whole building.
