One Day Symposium organized in N.G.S.M. Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences.

Mangalore,Jan.25th:  I.C.M.R and NITTE University sponsored one day symposium on “Animals in Biomedical Research: The changing perspectives” was organized by the Department of Pharmacology, NGSM Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences in the NITTE University Auditorium, Paneer campus on 22nd January 2016.

The invocation prayer was led by Shilpa K and Sandhya Savithri of 1st M.Pharm, Department of Pharmacology.

Convener of the symposium, Dr. C. S. Shastry (Principal NGSM Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences), welcomed the Chief Guest Dr. U. S. Krishna Nayak (Dean, A. B. Shetty Memorial Institute of Dental Sciences), Guest of Honour Dr. Indrani Karunasagar (Director R&D, Nitte University), speakers and delegates. The orators for the programme were, Dr. Ashok Shenoy K. (Professor, Dept. of Pharmacology, KMC, and Mangalore), Dr. N. A Madhyastha (Retired Prof. and Environmentalist Mangalore), Dr. Sheedhar Pai (Prof & Head, Dept. of Pharmacology, Manipal), Dr. Vasanth Kumar Shetty (Veterinarian & Regional Research Officer, Mangalore), Prof. Krishna Bhat (Biostatistician, KSHEMA, Mangalore).

The Chief Guest inaugurated the function by lighting the lamp. The organizing secretary Dr. Himanshu Joshi Assistant professor briefed the gathering about the symposium, mentioned the need of alternatives ethics, and humane use of animals. Dr. Indrani Karunasagar in her speech mentioned that the greatness of a nation and its moral progress can be judged by the way its animals are treated, quoted by Mahatma Gandhi. The symposium was attended by over 180 delegates from Goa, Kerala and Karnataka.

Ms. Anit Tresa Kurian 1st M.Pharm, Department of Pharmacology and Ms. Sonal D’Souza 4th B.Pharm was master of the ceremony during the programme.

The symposium was coordinated by Dr. Ullas Prakash D’Souza, Dr. Prasanna Shama Khandige, Dr. Nimmy Chacko, Assistant professors; Department of Pharmacology and the co-organizing Secretary Dr. Gururaj M.P Assistant professor, Department of Pharmacology proposed the vote of thanks.
