Mangalore, July 31: in the general session of the Mangalore city corporation council which met on Wednesday July 30, it has been decided to revise fine payable as per the regulation on control of malaria and other related diseases caused due to mosquitoes. The meet also discussed other major issues.
Fine Payable for not following clean norms:
Residential buildings – Rs 500, Commercial buildings – Rs 5,000, under construction buildings – Rs 15,500 and apartments – Rs 5,000. The decision is taken following increase in malaria cases reported in the city. The council said that fine will be imposed after issuing a notice to maintain the cleanliness and carrying out an inspection after 15 days. If the under construction buildings and apartments fail to stick to the norms even after the notice, then the facilities will be withdrawn and building license will be suspended.
Fixation of parking fee:
When Corporator Naveenchandra raised a question with regard to high parking fee, Mayor Mahabala Marla said that the MCC is looking forward to put up a board on the amount of prescribed parking fee near the parking areas. There are complaints on exorbitant fee collected by the contractors. In charge Commissioner Gokuldas Nayak said that the contract for collecting the parking fee at Hampankatta has been terminated for collecting exorbitant fee.
Dog menace:
Talking about stray dog menace in Mangalore, Corporator Prakash Salian said that 7,709 dogs have been sterilised in the last four years. However, the stray dog menace has increased over the years and there is a need to construct a shelter for stray dogs.
Street lights:
The Corporators demanded action against contractors for failing to maintain the streetlights, responding to this, the Mayor said that all the pending complaints should be solved within a week. The engineers should make a list of fuse boards that require immediate attention. If the contractors fail to repair streetlights, then a committee with chief whip, opposition leader, standing committee presidents can take a decision to terminate their contract.
Water connection:
The Council approved the proposal to provide water connection to economically backward families by paying Rs 500 under Jalabhagya Yojane scheme. The council also decided to disconnect all the unauthorised water connections after six months.
It was also decided to computerise all the sections in the MCC, it was determined to constitute an expert committee and then call for tenders.
