Mangaluru, October 1: Mangalore City Corporation has decided to oppose the Yettinahole Project during the general meeting held on Wednesday, September 30th.
Mayor Jacintha Vijay Alfred presided over the meeting. In the backdrop that danger is posed by the Yettinahole project to river Netravati which is the source of water in the MCC limits, it is decided to write to the government demanding to drop the project, informed the Mayor.
MCC CPIM member Dayandanda Shetty objected this decision and demanded for the complete discussion on the Yettinahole project. Members Roopa D Bangera, Abduravoof and Abdulatif in advance to this meeting had submitted a proposal asking the Mayor to take decision to oppose the Yettinahole project. According to this, when the mayor went ahead to take the decision, debate took place between the members of ruling and opposition party. The opposition party members also went ahead to stage protest.
Meanwhile, standing committee president Harinath said, BJP Minister Somshekar and Minister DV Sadananda Gowda has said that they need the project. Let MP Nalin Kumar Kateel hold a press meet in Bengaluru against the project, he said. Former mayor Shashidhar Hegde said that there was no need to politicize the issue.
“I had asked in the last meeting to take decisions to oppose the project. If it was decided then itself, it would not have got delayed again by a month. But now the Mayor has taken decisions, said Roopa D Bangera and opposition leader Premananda Shetty.
MCC Commissioner Dr Gopalkrishna, president of standing committee, corporators were present.
