Preparations are on to release ’Mangaluru Darshana’- a literature by October-2015

Mangaluru, July 31: The Dakshina Kannada DC AB Ibrahim informed that preparations are going on to release the book ‘Mangaluru Darshana’ which covers the comprehensive information about Mangaluru, by October.

Chairing a press meet at Mangalore Urban Development Authority office here on July 30th, the DC said, in the book which contains about 1,500 to 1,600 pages, comprises the information pertaining to over 2,000 years. This book will be published in three volumes, he informed.

He said, the scripting works of the books have already begun in June 2014.

The history of Mangaluru from first century AD till date will be covered under the Mangaluru Darshana and various aspects such as geography, rule of royal dynasties, foreign rule, banking, culture, education, sports, commerce, arts and all the information till the modern age would be covered. The composing team has taken interviews with about 212 veterans and gathered information in this regard, explained chief of the editorial committee, Prof B A Vivek Rai.

Estimated Project cost is Rs 50 lakhs:

The estimated project cost is Rs 50 lakhs. Rs 31 lakh has been contributed by various bodies including government departments, banks and the local administration. The Mangaluru City Corporation has sanctioned Rs 25 lakhs and has released Rs 10 lakhs, the department of Kannada and Culture has released Rs 10 lakh, SEZ has provided Rs five lakh, the Syndicate Bank has contributed Rs one lakh. Rs 8 lakhs has been spent so far. Contribution of Rs 10 lakhs is expected from the Tourism Department.  The district administration plans to publish 1,000 copies of Mangaluru Darshana and e-tenders for the printing will be invited, said the DC.

MUDA Commissioner Nazeer, Editorial committee members Muddu Moodubelle and Satyanarayana Mallipattana, veteran writer  Sa Ra Aboobacquer, Manorama Bhat, and others were present.
