Local residents obstruct ongoing SEZ works at Jokatte

Mangaluru, July 4: The locals joined together and obstructed the ongoing work at Mangalore Special Economic Zone (SEZ) near Jokatte on Friday July 3rd.

Jokatte residents have been complaining that black dust from coke and sulfur unit has been forming a filmy layer on their homes and dresses, and has caused a lot of pollution. The Citizens Action Committee which had earlier rised voice against this, received strong support from all the citizens who came together on Friday.

The locals stopped the giant machines operating in the place and stalled the progressing works at around 2 pm on Friday.

Immediately, the officials, informed reserve police force.

Verbal exchange took place between the locals and the officials of MSEZ till 11 am on Friday.

The police intervened and after they assured to register case against the guilty, the mob dispersed.
