Mangaluru, March 21: Two students who got into Nethravathi river to swim on the afternoon of Saturday March 21st, have drowned. The incident is reported from Kallapu falling under Ullal police jurisdiction.
The duo boys are identified as Aditya Nayak (17) son of Vinod Nayak, resident of Mahakalipadpu, Mogan’s Gate and Chirag Bangera(16), son of Yogendra from Marnamikatte. The duo’s friends Satvik and Prateek are safe.
For combined study, the second PU economics students of Canara College, Chirag, Satvik and Prateek, had met at Aditya’s house in Morgan’s Gate. Taking a break in the afternoon, the friends went to take bath in Ullal Nethravathi river which flows close to the house. They undressed their clothes and placed it on Ullal bridge before taking bath.
Meanwhile, while swimming in the water, Aditya and Chirag got pulled away by the water currents. Observing it, their friends Satvik and Prateek cried for help.
Immediately, the locals who plunged into action set into a search operation for the missing boys using boat.
Huge crowd has gathered in the spot.
Details of the incident:
The four friends Adithya Nayak, Chirag Bangera, Sathwik, and Prateek Imanuel who were busy preparing for the Computer Science exam scheduled for Monday, had arrived to Mangaluru.
Since Sathwik wanted the photocopy of the notes, he had arrived to Mangaluru from Mudipu. Meanwhile, his other friends had met him. Later, all these friends had been to study at Adithya’s house in Mahakalipadpu. From there they went via the railway bridge to study on a small bridge near Nethravathi river banks at Kallapu.
Adithya and Chirag who were swimmers got into the river there to take bath. But due to the high water waves in the afternoon, the two boys were drawn by the water currents. Prateek who noticed that two boys were drowning raised an alarm. As there was no one around, the duo could not be rescued from drowning.
Locals, fire service, and the Ullal police have rushed to the spot and search operation is on to trace the bodies.
Body of Chirag has been retrieved after much efforts and search operation is on for another body.
