Mangaluru, March 10: Pope Francis in Vatican will canonize co-foundress of Mangaluru Carmel Blessed Mary of Jesus Crucified (Mariam Baouardy) on May 17th, 2015 announced, Fr Pius James D’Souza at a press meet at Sacred Heart Church, Kankanady here on Monday March 9th.
Fr Pius James D’Souza, addressing the press meet spoke about the canonization process and said, sister Mary of Jesus Crucified is scheduled to be canonized on May 17th, 2015 by Pope Francis. In her honour, spiritual and cultural programmes will be announced on the same day, which will be organized after May 17th.
Mother Mary Celine speaking about the Mangaluru Carmel society said, Mangaluru Carmel society was founded by the initiative of Bishop Marie Ephrem, which drew personnel from the Carmel of Pau in France. Six sisters came in the first batch along with three Apostolic Carmelites but three of them expired on the way. They were accommodated at St Ann’s Convent near Holy Rosary Cathedral Mangaluru, along with the Apostolic Carmel sisters, where they stayed for twelve years.
It was here that Blessed Mary of Jesus Crucified manifested her paranormal phenomenon of levitation and prophecy. She said, this Carmel is dedicated to the Sacred Heart of Jesus; which in its 142 years of history, has given birth to Trichy Carmel, Shembaganur Carmel and Hassan Carmel.
Sr Jacintha OCD, Sr Mary Imelda OCD, Fr Antony George, Sr Linette AC, Sr Linette AC, Elias Fernandes, were present among others during the press meet.
