Mangaluru, January 26: National Voters Day was organized by the District Administration, in the city on Sunday, January 25th at University College.
S.Y. Quraishi, Former Chief Election Commissioner speaking on this occasion said, internet security is one of the major issues posing threat to online voting. The providing security to the voter who votes from individual premises is also an issue. While a voter casts his vote under security in a polling booth, the same might not be available at individual premises, he said.
He said, the commission might consider ban on corporate funding of political parties. Parties may be funded by the government in proportion to the votes they get, he said.
Quraishi further said, over five crore voters were added in the last four years covering about 70 per cent of the young voters.
A.B. Ibrahim, Dakshina Kannada Deputy Commissioner, Thulasi Maddineni, Zilla Panchayat CEO, Dr S D Sharanappa, Superintendent of Police, Hepsiba Rani Korlapati, MCC Commissioner were present among others.
