Mangalore, January 8: Three days intercollegiate Kabbaddi tournament 2014-2015, was inaugurated at Urwa Ground in the city on Wednesday, January 7th under the aegis of Gokarnanatheshwara College Mangaluru and Mangalore University.
Urmila Ramesh Kumar, Director of Hotel Deepa Comforts, and owner of Devagiri Tea Company, Chartered Accountant Nandagopal Shenoy inaugurated the function by lighting a lamp. Post this the guests symbolically flew the pigeons and inaugurated the kabadi the tournament.
Speaking on the occasion, Nandagopal Shenoy said, kabadi tournament (Make India Concept) which is a domestic game now provides more opportunities for growth and development. He gave a call to the youth and said, the youth must make the best use of such opportunities and encourage Kabadi to bring exhibit their talents.
S. Jayavikram, convener of Gokarnanatheshwara College presided over the program.
The guests were Dr Kishore Kumar, director of sports at Mangalore University, Gokarnanatheshwara College old-students Alumni Association President Naveen Chandra, secretary of Shree Venkatesh Shivabhakthiyoga association,Vasantha Karanduru, members of the association Padmanabha Kotiyan, Dr B G Suvarna- governing body member of Shree Narayan College, B P Harish Kumar, physical Director Purushottam Poojary, Sandeep Rao and others.
Principal of Gokarnanatheshwara College Dr Ganghadhar B welcomed the gathering. Associate Professor Dr Ummappa Poojary compeered the program. Kannada language lecturer Dr Dinakar S Pachhanadi presented the vote of thanks.
40 teams Participated:
About 40 teams from Madikeri, Kushalnagar, Sowmvarpet, Tenkanadiyuru, Udupi, Kundapur, Karkala, Moodbidri, Puttur, Sullia, Belthangady, Ujre, Mangalore and surrounding colleges, participated in the tournament. Prizes will be distributed to the winning teams on Friday, January 9th– 2015 evening at the valedictory ceremony.
