Muscat: The Royal Oman Police (ROP) has arrested two Omani citizens, who were allegedly involved in an attempt to kidnap an Indian School Muscat (ISM) student on March 5, the ROP said in a statement yesterday.

Speaking to Times of Oman, the girl’s father said that while one of the accused had been arrested on the day of the attack, the other had been arrested this week. “Both of them were taken into custody after my daughter identified them at the police station,” he said. Both accused are in their mid-20s.

The 12-year-old ISM student had escaped from the kidnappers’ clutches on March 5. “She later provided some vital clues, which led to the arrests,” her father remarked.

The girl had been lured into a school bus outside ISM, Darsait while she was waiting for her father to pick her up after school hours. “However, she managed to escape from the kidnappers in Wadi Kabir, when they tried to force her to enter a house,” her father claimed.

Major Rashid bin Saleh Al Ganbosi, head of investigations at Muttrah Police Station, also thanked the citizen who helped to reunite the girl with her parents.

“The accused have been handed over to the public prosecution,” he said. The bravery and the presence of mind of the girl was applauded and appreciated by the ROP.

The girl’s father was also full of praise for the ROP. “We have had the full support of the ROP during the investigation, and I think the criminals will be punished severely,” he stated.
