Sunanda Pushkar’s son Shiv Pushkar Menon has finally broken his silence. In an impassioned Shiv, 21, sent out a one-page impassioned letter blaming her death last Friday to a combination of ‘media stress, tensions and a wrong mix of different medication.’

Sunanda, 52, was found dead in a five-star hotel in Delhi late in the evening. It followed a bitter Twitter fight with Pakistani journalist Mehr Tarar who Sunanda accused of having an affair with her husband. Shiv Menon dismissed media speculation about his mother’s death not just untrue, but outrageous.

Shiv’s statement came on the day doctors at AIIMS who carried out Sunanda’s autopsy say her death was ‘sudden’ ‘unnatural’ and that she died of poisoning.

“Anyone who knew my mother knew that she was too strong to commit suicide,” Shiv says. His step-father Shashi Tharoor, however, was incapable of harming her, he says.
