The deceased’s 20-year-old neighbour kidnapped him from his residence before killing him

The Hadapsar police discovered the body of a 10-year-old boy at Bopdeo Ghat, who was kidnapped from his residence in Hadapsar, Pune, four days ago. Investigations revealed that the boy was killed by his 20-year-old neighbour, for resisting his sexual advances. The police have arrested the accused, Rushal Kalane, and his parents Madhukar, an auto driver, and Nalini on charges of helping Rushal get rid of the dead body.

The deceased, identified as Om Ajit Bankar, was a resident of Rudrashivay Society in Bhekrainagar in Phursungi near Hadapsar. While Om was a Class IV student of St Patrick School, Rushal pursued a diploma course in JSPM Institute at Wagholi. After failing in his exams, Rushal started maintaining a distance from his friends.

According to the police, Om went to school every day at 7.15 am and returned at 2.45 pm. On August 27, after returning home from school, Om called up his father, who works for a company at the Hadapsar Industrial Estate. Later when his mother, a teacher at Sonai English Medium School, reached home, she found the door open and the TV set switched on. She couldn’t find Om and the family approached the police and even sought the help of a private detective.

Assistant Commissioner of Police (Wanawadi Division) Rajan Bhogle said, “Rushal tried to have sex with Om, which he refused. He tried to force Om, but the latter started shouting and this scared Rushal. He banged Om’s head on the floor and he started to bleed profusely. Rushal, then, murdered him and stuffed his body in a bag and kept it under his bed at home.”

“When Rushal’s parents came to know about the incident, instead of informing the police, they helped him to dispose the body at the Bopdeo ghat area,” Bhogle added.
