Four members of the firm claim five men looted them of the jewellery. The Kasturba Marg police, however, has doubts about their story

In a daylight heist, a gang of six people allegedly looted a security agency jeep and scooted away with diamond and gold jewellery worth Rs 6 crore. The crime took place near Sanjay Gandhi National Park at Borivli on Friday afternoon. However, the police suspect that the security agency workers might have cooked up the whole story.

Highway drama
Recounting the incident, the Kasturba Marg police officials said that on Friday afternoon, four workers of a security agency named Malka Amit JK Logistic Pvt Ltd arrived in Mumbai in the Gujarat Express Train.

The company supervisor Rameshkumar Gupta and three workers had come to deliver jewellery worth R6 crore to Bandra Kurla Complex Diamond Market. After reaching Borivli station, they kept the jewellery in the company jeep and left for BKC.

On nearing Sanjay Gandhi National Park, the driver of the jeep said that there was a problem with the front tyre. As soon as he got down, five armed men attacked the four men inside and locked all of them in the rear seat of the jeep.

Later, the accused drove the vehicle along with the four workers to Virar, near Vajeshwari area and left them there. After being locked up for nearly three hours, a passer-by noticed them and opened the door.

Ramesh and his co-workers immediately went to the Virar police station and registered a case, which was later transferred to the Kasturba Marg police station. The car driver, identified as Uday Bhang Singh, has been working with the agency since last year. He has a crime record and was arrested by Unit 11 crime branch in 2006.

Loopholes in story
The Kasturba Marg police officials, however, seem to have found loopholes in their story. Senior Inspector Bharat Worlikar told sunday mid-day, “The jeep’s rear side is a kind of a store room.

If somebody is locked inside for even an hour, it will be difficult to survive as one can’t even breathe properly. But surprisingly, all the workers are alive and well. We suspect foul play and are looking into the matter.”
