Antop Hill – Landslide – 1 Killed

antop-hill-gifFollowing heavy rains today morning, there was a landslide in Mumbai’s Antop Hill area.

One person died in the incident, while five persons are feared trapped under the debris. The incident took place at Wadala at around 7.15 am

Rescue operations are still on. Ambulances and fire brigades have rushed to the spot.

The deceased, Sandeep, is a 23-year-old youth. His father is still stuck under the debris, while his mother was rescued.

Among those trapped under the debris are also 2 children, aged 4 and 5 years. Locals say that in the morning a large part of a hillock fell on some shanties, destroying them.

By the time the fire brigade officials arrived, the locals had rescued some people. According to sources, the structures that bore the brunt of the landslide were encroachments.

Since early morning, Mumbai has been experiencing intermittent spells of heavy rains.(MD)
