Mumbai: It is now clear that alleged prime accused Indrani Mukerjea had sent a threatening e-mail to her daughter Sheena Bora about 45 days prior to the latter’s murder. As reported by The Asian Age on September 6, the police has conducted a panchnama of this e-mail and see it as an “important” piece of evidence.
A highly-placed police source disclosed that Indrani had sent the e-mail to Sheena from her personal Gmail account in which “threatening words” were used by the former. This particular e-mail was sent on March 8, 2012 i.e. around 45 days before Sheena’s murder that according to Khar police took place April 24, 2012. The same e-mail was forwarded to Mikhail as well. But the police source did not make it clear if Sheena or Indarni forwarded it to Mikhail. The contents of this e-mail, said the police source, has led them to strongly suspect that the idea of bumping off Sheena must have taken root in Indrani’s mind back then.
The police source said, “We have taken printouts of this e-mail. We have also done a panchnama of it so it can be proved in a court of law.” The police has also followed the same procedure with two more e-mails sent on May 4, 2012 and August 7, 2012 by Indrani from the same Gmail account after Sheena’s murder. It is not clear to whom the last two e-mails have been sent. A senior police officer, requesting anonymity, said, “The murderers had made an elaborate plan. They took many measures to ensure they did not get caught. They performed a recce of the spot a day prior to the murder.”
The Mumbai police has managed to connect the dots in the journey the accused took from Mumbai to Raigad in the early hours of April 25, 2012 to dump Sheena’s body in the forest area of Pen. The police has recovered the car used in the journey and have recorded statements of the concerned persons. Further, the forensic tests, including the most crucial DNA test has proved beyond doubt that the murdered person was indeed Sheena Bora and is also related to Indrani.
