Pramoda Devi Wadiyar, wife of the late scion of Mysore Srikantadatta Narasimharaja Wadiyar, released a special cover on the royal durbar of Mysore, brought out by the Department of Posts on Wednesday, a day before the start of Dasara celebrations here.

The special cover depicts Srikanatadatta Narasimharaja Wadiyar ascending the golden throne of Mysore in a traditional attire amidst the ancient practice of announcing the arrival of the king to the court. After ascending the throne, the king used to receive tributes from the courtiers and other members of the royal family at the private durbar, marking the symbolic and ceremonial beginning of the Dasara festivities.

After releasing the special cover at Postal Training Centre in the City, Ms. Wadiyar thanked the Department of Posts for the gesture.

On the occasion, Chief Postmaster General, Karnataka circle, Bangalore, M.S. Ramanujam released a special cover on the platinum jubilee of Bewoor Building, housing the Mysore Head Post Office.

Later, Ms. Wadiyar also inaugurated Chamundipex 2014, a regional level philately exhibition, at the Postal Training Centre. Though the exhibition is scheduled to remain open till September 26, the exhibits will be kept for public display till the conclusion of Dasara festival, Mr. Ramanujam said.
