Cricketer Harbhajan Singh wants to set up a solar power plant in Karnataka. The crafty spinner met Energy Minister D.K. Shivakumar in Bangalore on Wednesday and had a detailed discussion on his green energy mission.
Mr. Singh told reporters after his one-hour meeting with the minister that he wanted to take up solar power generation in Karnataka on the lines of his home state of Punjab, which has excelled in tapping solar energy to power irrigation pump sets.
Nod sought
Expressing his desire to take up such a venture along with his friends in Karnataka, he said he sought permission from the State government for his proposed venture. He hailed Karnataka for providing free power to the irrigation pump sets of farmers.
Later, the minister said the cricketer had been told to submit an application to the government on his green energy mission. The government would examine the application and take an appropriate decision.
