Five persons, including four women, were killed and seven injured when a passenger vehicle overturned and rammed a roadside tree near H.D. Kote on Wednesday.
The dead have been identified as Sujatha (40), Gowramma (60), Prema (48) and Kanyakumari (47). The identity of the other person is not known. Another woman, whose name is also Gowramma (64), is being treated in a hospital here.
While four of the injured were shifted to J.S.S. Hospital here for treatment, the others were admitted to K.R. Hospital.
The vehicle was proceeding to H.D. Kote Hand-post from Antharasanthe when the accident occurred. The vehicle overturned after the driver lost control while overtaking a car, according to reports reaching here.
Most of the passengers were women and they were on their way to attend an engagement ceremony of a relative, it is learnt.
Bharat, who was at the wheel, has also been injured.
The H.D. Kote police have registered a case.
