Parameshwara

Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee president G. Parameshwara, who turned 63 on Wednesday, said he was willing to take up any assignment, including that of Deputy Chief Minister, in tune with the Congress high command’s directions.

Speaking at a function organised to distribute books and sweets to visually impaired children on his birthday, Dr. Parameshwara said he was happy that the party had come to power with him at the helm of the KPCC in the 2013 Assembly elections.

Hoping that the party high command would appoint him as Deputy CM soon, he said he had aspired to be the Chief Minister of the State. “But in politics, anything can happen,” he said.

Dr. Parameshwara said the creation of the Deputy Chief Minister’s post was left to the discretion of Chief Minister Siddaramaiah. He expected all Ministers to perform well and deliver services to the people. Heads of various government-owned boards and corporations would be nominated after the byelections to the three Assembly constituencies scheduled on August 21. He said the party would win the three seats by a big margin. A programme was organised at Palace Grounds in the city to mark Dr. Parameshwara’s birthday.

Tricycles, books, sewing machines and clothes were distributed to the poor and persons with disabilities on the occasion. Dr. Parameshwara and his wife visited Vinayaka temple at R.T. Nagar. Speaking to presspersons at the Vidhana Soudha, Law and Parliamentary Affairs Minister T.B. Jayachandra said would be ready to take up the job of the Deputy Chief Minister. But the Chief Minister and the party high command would take a final call on creating such a post, he said.
