The crime allegedly took place in the caretaker’s home last Friday

Amid the public outrage over the rape of a six-year-old student in a private school in the city recently, another such incident involving a seven-year-old child has come to light at Sunkadakatte in Kamakshipalya police station limits.

The girl was raped allegedly by her caretaker’s son, who has been arrested. The accused Srinivas (28) was nabbed after a complaint was filed by the victim’s mother with the Kamakshipalya police on Tuesday.

The crime allegedly took place in the ayah’s home on Friday last.

The ayah works in the same school where the victim studies and was paid by the girl’s mother to bring the child from school to her house every day.

According to the police, the girl’s mother was employed in a garment factory and would return home only in the evening. The routine involved the caretaker taking the girl from the school to her house at Sunkadakatte and the mother would pick up the child from there after work.

The routine
On Friday too, the girl was picked up from the school by the ayah and taken to her house.

However, the mother later came to know that the caretaker’s son had sexually abused the child. The police said that the girl had told her mother about the incident.

The police are investigating where the caretaker was present when the child was allegedly raped by Srinivas at their home. It is not yet clear when the ayah was hired by the mother. The police said the ayah was on leave for about three days and had not gone to the school.

According to the police, the accused claimed that he was a carpenter.

He has been booked under section 376 for rape and also under the POCSO (Protection of Children from Sexual Offences) Act, 2012.

Medical test done
The victim and the mother live at Sunkadakatte as well. Quoting family sources, the police said the child’s father was not living with the family. A medical examination was conducted on the child and the report is awaited.
