Though the State government removed the contentious signboard at Yellur village on Friday, thereby ending a nearly two-decade-old controversy, similar signboards can be found in villages dominated by Marathi-speaking communities in Belgaum taluk. One such board is at Kangrali Khurd village in the taluk.

The signboard indicating that the village, which is about 4 km away from Belguam city, is in Maharashtra is at the main circle where a statue of Chhatrapati Shivaji is installed.

Attempts made in the past by some Kannada activists to remove the board have gone in vain.
