The Upa Lokayukta has issued an emergency notice to the Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) Commissioner and the Principal Secretary of the Horticulture Department for allowing “illegal constructions” inside Cubbon Park.

The Upa Lokayukta has summoned the officials to present details before him on August 8.

The Cubbon Park Walkers’ Association had filed a complaint with Upa Lokayukta Subhash B. Adi against the Young Men’s Christian Association and the Yavanika State Youth Centre recently. Association president S. Umesh, in his complaint, had alleged the involvement of officials of the BBMP and the Horticulture Department.

Mr. Umesh told The Hindu that as per the Karnataka Parks, Play-Fields and Open Spaces (Preservation and Regulation) Act, 1985, the BBMP should have taken permission from the Horticulture Department before approving building plans. In 2003, the High Court of Karnataka had ruled that no multi-storeyed buildings should come up inside Cubbon Park and Lalbagh.
