BBMP spent Rs. 2 lakh to catch 20 mice in a three-month period
: How much does one have to spend to catch one mouse? Going by the Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike’s (BBMP) example, one may have to shell Rs. 10,000 for one mouse! It would seem that hiring the Pied Piper to catch the mice is a much more cost-effective prospect.
Revealing this in the BBMP council on Wednesday, Yediyur councillor N.R. Ramesh said the civic body had spent around Rs. 2 lakh on vermin control in its head office and IPP Centre, Malleswaram, for just three months. The tender for the same was floated through e-procurement on October 29, 2013.
“When I sought to know how many mice had been caught during this period, I was told that 20 had been caught. This means the BBMP has spent Rs. 10,000 to catch each mouse,” he said.
Mr. Ramesh said the BBMP had spent Rs. 1.4 crore on providing interiors in the offices of the Chief Accounts Officer and renovation of the offices of the Additional Commissioner (Administration) and Commissioner’s administrative section.
“The renovation work is shoddy. The plastering from the ceiling just fell apart few days after the work was completed. The quality of interiors is pathetic and the cupboards are already in a bad state. It is staggering the amount of public funds that are being wasted in the BBMP,” he said.
