Fans jostle with one another to get a glimpse of their star

Union Minister of State for Tourism and actor Chiranjeevi urged the people to teach BJP a befitting lesson by electing a Congress candidate in the upcoming Assembly election.

Addressing a public campaign at Gauribidanur and Bagepalli on Sunday, he said the BJP in its five years of administration has looted the State’s resources and has been the most corrupt party.

“Despite facing the corruption charges, the BJP is trying to come to power again.
“People should not give it a chance to loot the State’s resources again. Vote for the Congress to have clean and able government,” he urged the people.

He was accompanied by Raghuveera Reddy, Revenue Minister of Andhra Pradesh, actor Ramya, Gauribidanur Congress candidate N H Shiva Shankar Reddy and Bagepalli party candidate N Sampangi.

Crowd puller

People who had gathered in large numbers, jostled with one another to get a glimpse of their favourite cine star. Braving scorching sun, they waited for long hours (in both the towns) as Chiranjeevi came late.

In view of his visit, the police had deployed strict vigil in both the towns. Besides, Central Reserve Police Force and Cetral Industrial Security Force personnel too kept the vigil. But they could not control the swelling crowd who climbed buildings and towers and pulled one another to see him. Unable to manage the crowd, the police resorted to mild lathi charge.

In Gauribidanur

As Chiranjeevi was scheduled to arrive at the noon, the people scrambled for space at the Acharya Krishi Maidan and waited for him to arrive. But the helicopter carrying Chiranjeevi and Ramya reached the venue only at 2 pm and this did not seem to bother the crowd. As he began addressing the crowd, the people just went berserk to catch a closer look of Ramya and Chiranjeevi. The police had to cane the crowd and in the melee a few sustained injuries.

In Bagepalli

People had gathered in large numbers near the National College grounds where Chiranjeevi addressed the crowd. Though a procession was planned here, it was cancelled later.

People who had climbed up many buildings, trees and electric towers and even college compound to watch their star in a procession were disappointed.

He campaigned for the party candidate N Sampangi.
