Chennamma award for 6 institutions, 18 women

Bangalore: The State government on Saturday announced Kittur Rani Chennamma Award for six institutions and 18 women who have rendered outstanding services in the fields of women welfare, art, sports, education and literature.

State awards have also been announced to seven best performing Stree Shakti groups and three taluk federations. The awards should have been be presented on March 8 (International Women’s Day), but the function could not be held due to the model code of conduct for the Lok Sabha polls.

According to an official press release, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah will present the awards on May 26 at Ravindra Kalakshetra, Bangalore. Minister of State for Kannada and Culture Umashree will be present.

List of Kittur Rani Chennamma Awardees: Women Development – Institutions (Rs 25,000 and citation): AWAKE- Karnataka State Women Entrepreneurs Association, Sri Shubhodaya Mahila Mandali, Kolar; Spurthy (Social and Educational Development Organisation), Davangere; Sairam Mahila Samaj, Hassan; Prathibha Mahila Mandali, Bellary; Sankalpa Graminabhivrudhi Sangha, Raichur.

Individuals (Rs 10,000 and citation): Raheena Begum, Tumkur; Yogeshwari Vijay, Chikkaballapur; Bhuvaneshwari V, Mysore; Rashmi, Hassan; Sarala B Kanchan, Udupi; Anitha D’Souza, Haveri; Padmavathi Anjaneya, Gangavathi; S Babitha Pai, Bangalore; Suma Rajkumar, Mysore; Mathangevva Y Madara, Bijapur; Prema Basavaraj Patil Guledagudda, Bagalkot; Vidya V Halabavi, Bangalore; Janaki Brahmavar, Udupi; Shyamala Murthy, Mysore; Bangaramma, Bangalore; Benazir Mehaboob Ali Budan Khana, Dharwad; Geetha, Tumkur.

Nine girls, residing in the girls’ hostels run by NGOs funded by the Kannada and Culture department and who have scored distinction in II PU, DEd and degree examinations will be felicitated on the occasion, the release stated.
