Kolar: A research student pursuing her doctorate at Bangalore University’s Kannada Centre here has accused her guide K V Srinivasmurthy of sexual harassment.

The research student, along with fellow researchers and her family members, has lodged a complaint with Bangalore University Vice Chancellor Dr Thimme Gowda, urging the latter to change the guide.

When contacted, Thimme Gowda declined to comment, stating that the matter was being investigated. He requested the mediapersons not to report the incident.

“Following the complaint lodged by the student, I spoke to the guide in question on Friday. As an immediate action, the guide of the research student will be changed.
And the matter will be transferred to the committee against sexual harassment of the BU for further investigation,” the vice chancellor said.

The vice chancellor further said that he had asked the complainant and the director of Kannada PG Centre to meet him at the university on Saturday. After speaking to the complainant in person, suitable action will be initiated.

“On Thursday, the research student lodged an oral complaint against her guide. She alleged that her guide asked her to board his car recently.

He allegedly took her to a place and ‘behaved indecently’. I suggested her to lodge a written complaint in this regard,” said Dr Seethamma, Registrar, Bangalore University.

“I have assured the student that action will be taken against the accused, if found guilty, as per the guidelines laid down by the UGC,” the registrar, who is also the member of the committee, added.
