Bangalore: Governor H R Bhardwaj has welcomed the Supreme Court verdict, which gives parents the choice to choose the medium of instruction for their wards.
The Governor was speaking at the third convocation of the Samskrit University here on Wednesday.
He allayed fears that the court verdict would have a bearing on Kannada language. Bhardwaj said Kannada had a strong literary tradition and could never fade away.
In his speech, Dr V R Panchamukhi, chancellor of the Tirupati-based National Sanskrit University, said that the government should introduce a four-language policy, in which Sanskrit figures prominently apart from English, Hindi and the local language.
This, he felt, was necessary to save Sanskrit from disappearing from the country of its origin.
